Born in Paris, Joël Soultanian began playing viola in the United States. In 1979 he becomes member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and played in the Hollywood motion picture industry orchestras with composers such as Lalo Schrifrin, Georges Delerue, John Williams, or Michel Legrand.
Returning to France in 1985, he continues his musical activities in the Viotti String Quartet and the KammerEnsemble de Paris with whom he has recorded several discs (Schoënberg’s Transfigured Night ; Brahms Clarinet Quintette ; Strauss Metamorphoses) and founding member of the Nobis Trio (Flute, viola and harp).
Member of the Paris Chamber Orchestra from 1989 to 2013, he is currently freelancing and has been asked regularly as principal or co-principal with the Nice Philharmonic and Montpellier Opera Orchestras.
Professor at the Festival of French Music at Kaohsiung ,Taiwan from 2006 to2012. Joël Soultanian plays with the group Concerts Salade, exploring jazz, film music and much more..
